Track and Field Finishes Day at Clemson Indoor Invitational

CLEMSON, SC-- Two Demon Deacons recorded provisional qualifying marks on Saturday as the Wake Forest track and field team competed at the Clemson Invitational. Sophomore Mike Loyd placed second in the 60m hurdles event with a time of 7.90 which was good enough to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships. Loyd also placed fifth in the 200m dash. On the women's side, senior Nikeya Green won the 800m event for the second week in a row, provisionally qualifying with a time of 2:09.63.
Sophomore Lindsay Neuberger's second-place finish in the shot put event on Saturday now gives her three straight top five finishes in that event so far this season. Junior Cassy Richards recorded an impressive third-place performance in the long jump for Wake Forest, and also competed in the shot put and 60m dash events.
The Wake Forest men placed two finishers in the top ten of the mile run, including Nathan Sisco (6th) and Matt Busick (9th) while three of the top 11 finishers in the same event on the women's side were Deacs. Molly Nunn, Denise Hefferin and Selina Sekulic placed fifth, 10th and 11th, respectively.
As a team, the Demon Deacon women finished eighth out of the 11 participating schools with 39 points. The Clemson women took first-place honors with 93 points. The Wake Forest men placed eighth out of nine teams as the University of Georgia finished on top with 120 points.
Wake Forest heads back to Chapel Hill next weekend for the North Carolina Invitational which is scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
