Cambridge, Mass. - The Wake Forest Demon Deacon field hockey team cruised to a 7-1 victory against Harvard on Saturday afternoon. The match was delayed two hours due to three inches of snow which fell on Boston on Friday night. With the win, the Deacons extend their NCAA Tournament winning streak to nine games and improve to 17-3 this season.

"I was really proud of our team," said associate head coach Neil Macmillan. "We really executed well, especially on the corners. Meijer and Dostal finished on their opportunities and the entire team played brilliantly. I thought our team did a good job of dealing with the snow delay and we really came out strong."

Kelly Dostal got the Deacons on the board 4:39 into the game on the first Deacon penalty corner of the game. The goal was her 27th of the season. Claire Laubach injected the ball and was credited with the assist.

Tamar Meijer was responsible for the next two Deacon goals. Dostal found an open Meijer at the 16:24 mark to give Wake Forest the two point cushion. Three minutes later, Meijer intercepted a Crimson pass and slipped one past Aliaa Remtilla for her second goal of the game.

On the next Deacon corner, Laubach injected to stopper Maeke Boreel. Lauren Crandall swung and fired to Ariel Meyers who had snuck behind all Crimson defenders. Meyers dove to tap the ball in for Deacon goal number four of the afternoon.

Harvard made a run in the opening minutes of the first half, with a goal by Julie Lane. Shelley Maasdorp, the Ivy League Player of the Year assisted on the only Crimson goal of the game. The goal came on a penalty corner.

Moments later, sophomore Tracey Scott shot between Remtilla's legs and Kelly Dostal finished things off to extend the Deacon cushion back to four points. It was Dostal's second goal of the game, her 28th this season. She needs only one more to break her own single season goals record, which she set in 2003.

Crandall took a free hit and passed to Kelly Wood, who deflected the ball high into the net for the sixth goal of the afternoon. Crandall would slam home the final goal of the game on a penalty corner. Boreel and Laubach were credited with the assists.

Wake Forest out-shot Harvard 23 to six and took five penalty corners to the Crimson's three. All Deacon field players saw action and senior goalkeeper Merrilee Robbins was able to relieve sophomore starting keeper Kristina Gagliardi. Robbins played 6:47 and continued her streak of scoreless minutes.

The Deacons will face the winner of the UConn/Northeastern game on Sunday. Official game time is still to be determined due to the delays in Saturday's matches.
