
No. 1 Field Hockey Races Past Northwestern, 7-0

Winston-Salem, N.C. - The No. 1 Wake Forest field hockey team scored six first half goals en route to a 7-0 victory over Northwestern, Saturday afternoon in Kentner Stadium. Freshman Christine Suggs led the charge with the first two goals of the game. She also had two assists.
The Demon Deacon improve to 17-0 overall and are looking for their first undefeated regular season in the program's history. The win also increases Wake Forest's non conference winning streak to 65.
Suggs scored her first goal just 45 seconds into the game off a clean unassisted shot from the top far corner of the circle. Scoring her second goal just four minutes later, Suggs received the ball from junior Haley Scott just in front of the cage. Injecting it in, Suggs scored her 14th goal of the season.
Junior Lauren Crandall continued the scoring for the Deacs with a pair of her own starting just four minutes after Suggs' second. Crandall's first came at the 8:04 mark when she dribbled the ball from the far side to the near post and cleanly injected it into the cage. Her second goal came off a corner that was a high shot that sailed past the keepers shoulders.
The final two goals of the first stanza came from freshman Michelle Kasold and sophomore Chelsea Cipriani. Scoring first at the 27:36 mark, Kasold snagged the rebound from a shot by Maeke Boreel. Cipriani added one more with about four minutes later when Tracey Scott made a short pass in front of the goal to her. Slipping it into the empty corner, Cipriani scored her second goal of the season.
On the day, the Deacs out-shot the `Cats, 37 to four and took 13 corners to Northwestern's four. Crandall took nine shots, while Kasold closed with eight. Junior Kristina Gagliardi picked up the win, playing 49:41. Freshman Crystal Duffield played the remaining 20:19 and had two saves. For Northwestern, Sherri-Anne Nyberg played 45:21 and had nine saves and three goals against, while Emily Kyle played the remaining 24:39 and made seven saves with four goals against.
Wake Forest will close out the regular season on Sunday, Oct. 30 against Boston College. Game time at Kentner Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
