Hamar Advances To Sweet 16 At ITA All-American

Andrew Hamar won twice on Thursday, both in three-set marathons, to move into the round of 16 at the Polo Ralph Lauren ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. In the morning, Hamar defeated 97th-ranked Max Jones of New Mexico, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. Later in the day, Hamar rallied from down a set to upend 15th-seeded Kevin Anderson of Illinois, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.
After dropping his first round match, Deacon junior Todd Paul upset 10th-ranked Pedro Rico of Pepperdine in three sets 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. Paul continues play in the consolation bracket on Friday against Michigan's Matko Maravic.
Hamar has defeated three nationally-ranked opponents in two days. The junior from Pontypool, South Wales, has won five singles matches in four days to improve his season record to 7-1.
In the Sweet 16, Hamar will see either fourth-seeded John Isner of Georgia or Erling Treit of Ole Miss.
In his first round match in the main draw, Paul fell in three sets to 39th-ranked Arner Signarsson of Pacific, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
