Deacons Finish Competition At Wake Forest Open

Winston-Salem, NC - The Wake Forest men's and women's track teams wrapped up competition at the Wake Forest Open Saturday evening. The Deacons faired well, claiming titles in the men's 110 meter hurdles, the men's 4x100 meter relay and finished in the top-five in 18 other events. Mike Loyd finished first in the 110 meter hurdles and was the only Deacon to win an individual race.
Diane Anderson ran a season best and second best mark in the ACC this season in the 400 meter dash. Her 56.29 landed her in third place in that event. Michelle Duffey and Deacon newcomer Lauren Henn finished second and third respectively in the 400 meter hurdles. The two ran times of 1:03.95 and 1:05.88, both top-ten marks in the ACC.
The women's 4x100 meter relay team broke their own school record with a 46.92 time today. The team ran a 47.32 last weekend, to break the 14 year old record of 49.01. Their time today was the fourth best in the conference all year.
Freshman Oderah Nwaeze finished fifth in the 100 meter dash, sprinting an 11.14. Westin Galloway finished second in the 800 meter run, with an ACC top-five performance of 1:56.36. Mike Loyd claimed the 110 meter title, with a time of 14.33.
Jill Ahrens etched her name in the Kentner Stadium record books, vaulting for 3.30 meters, the fourth best mark ever posted at the Deacon track.
