Winston-Salem, NC - Wake Forest track star Annie Bersagel was named the women's ACC Performer of the Week, announced the conference on Monday. She is the first Deacon to earn the honor during the 2005 outdoor season, but garners the award for the third time in her career.

Bersagel was the top collegiate finisher in the women's 10,000m run at the Stanford Invitational over the weekend. The senior from Greeley, Colorado crossed the finish line with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 33:02.13, shattering her own school record by more than 20 seconds (33:23.00) set back in 2003. Her time in the 10K currently sits as the fastest recorded in the nation this season. Her performance was also the ACC season best by nearly four minutes.

Already a two-time All-ACC selection and two-time All-American in the 10k, Bersagel should be a strong contender to win the NCAA Championship in that event this year.

Vikas Gowda, the men's ACC Performer of the Week, picked up two victories this past weekend at the Raleigh Relays en route to a pair of regional qualifying marks. In the men's discus, Gowda threw for a school record and league best mark of 198-10 (60.60m) to win the event. The Frederick, Md. native then tallied a career-best throw of 59-04.25 (18.09m) in the men's shot put to place first.

Bersagel and the Demon Deacons are back in action on Saturday, April 2 at the Georgia Tech Invitational, while Gowda and the Tar Heels will next compete at the Charlotte Invite on Saturday as well.
