Annie Bersagel To Compete At NCAA Championship

Winston-Salem, NC - Wake Forest senior Annie Bersagel will compete at the NCAA Championship in the 3,000 and 5,000 meter races, after an outstanding senior season earned her provisional qualifying marks in both events. The native of Greeley, Colo. will make her second trip to the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship.
Bersagel, who owns the Wake Forest record for the indoor 3,000 and 5,000 meter runs, has twice been named All-ACC during the indoor season. A five-time All-American at Wake Forest, she holds the outdoor 5,000 and 10,000 meter records as well.
This season Bersagel earned an NCAA provisionally qualifying mark in the 5,000 meter race in her first outing back from a broken foot. She placed first at the ACC Championship in the 5,000 meter race, earning another provisionally qualifying mark and All-ACC in that event. She placed second at the ACC Championship in the 3,000 meter race, earning a provisionally qualifying mark in that event as well and another All-ACC honor. She set the Deacon 3,000 meter record (9:20.06) at the Alex Wilson Invitational last weekend and improved her provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Championship in that event. At the Niswonger Invitational, she set a personal record in the mile run, finishing with a 4:52.92.
In 2004, Bersagel recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 3,000m after a 9:34.90 at the ACC Championships. She earned a qualifying 5,000m time of 16:36.55 at the Alex Wilson Invitational.
In 2003, Bersagel named All-ACC in the 3,000m and was an automatic NCAA qualifier in the 5,000m with a time of 16:15.06. She provisionally qualified in the 3,000m. She set a new Wake Forest record with a time of 16:08.77 in the 5,000m at the NCAA Championships, and was named All-American in that event for her efforts.
The NCAA Championship will take place March 11-12 at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark.
