Track and Field Finishes Day One at VT Invitational

Blacksburg, Va. - The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams opened up the indoor season on Friday at the Virginia Tech Invitational.
Kerry Major qualified for the semifinals in the 60 meter dash by running a time of 6.91 in the preliminaries. Major just finished outside of qualifying for the finals by placing fifth in his semifinal heat running a time of 6.92.
Brent LaRue, Michael Bingham and Mike Loyd all qualified for the semifinals of the 60 meter hurdles, but Loyd was the only Deacon to advance to the Saturday final, winning his semifinal heat with a time of 7.89 seconds.
In the women's 500 meter dash, Diane Anderson placed 13th overall running a time of 1:18.09. Lauren Henn placed 21st in the event with a time of 1:22.70.
In the men's 500 meter dash, Philip Warsaw placed fifth overall with a time of 1:05.56. Ben Renner placed 26th in the event running a time of 1:09.30.
Eric Seely placed second overall in the men's 300 meter dash with a time of 34.43. Willie Idlette placed 17th in the event with a time of 35.71. Midion Smith also competed in the event running a time of 36.53.
In the men's 100 meter run, Westin Galloway tied for 31st with a time of 2:40.36.
Jill Aherns in the women's pole vault finals placed 16th with a jump of 3.20 meters. In the women's weight throw, Lindsay Neuberger placed 12th overall with a throw of 15.76 meters.
The Demon Deacons return to action tomorrow at noon for the final day of the Virginia Tech Invitational. The events beginning at noon are the women's shot put, the men's long jump and the women's mile. The meet will conclude with the men's 4x400m relay.
