
Field Hockey Enters ACC Championship As Second Seed

The No. 2 Wake Forest field hockey team, who captured the ACC regular season title along with Maryland, will enter the 2006 ACC Championships this coming weekend as the No. 2 seed. As one of the top seeds, the Demon Deacons will receive a bye in the first round and will face either North Carolina or Duke on Friday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m.
The 2006 ACC Field Hockey Championship is a single-elimination tournament and will take place Thursday-Sunday, Nov. 2-5. The tournament will be played at Francis E. Henry Stadium on the campus of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Through the regular season, Wake Forest has outscored opponents 90-12, including a 31-2 margin over the last six games. The Deacs have 15 different players that have goals, including four with more than 10. Sophomore Michelle Kasold, a native of Chapel Hill, N.C., currently leads the Deacs with 44 points off 16 goals and 12 assists. Kasold also has either scored or added an assist in eight of the last nine games for the Demon Deacons, including each of the last four.
The Demon Deacons have faced both Duke and North Carolina during the regular season and have walked away victorious in both games. Against the Blue Devils, Wake Forest won in Kentner Stadium, 2-0, while against North Carolina, the Deacs squeezed out an overtime thriller in Chapel Hill, 4-3.
If Wake Forest wins, they will face either Maryland, Boston College or Virginia in the finals on Sunday, Nov. 5. The championship game will be televised and broadcast on a tape-delayed basis at 5:30 p.m. ET on FSN South, FSN Florida, Comcast SportsNet, and New England Sports Network (NESN).
