The Wake Forest men's golf team kicks off the 2006-07 season in Scotland, where the Demon Deacons play Saturday and Sunday in the International Collegiate.
The two-day, 54-hole event features seven college teams from the United States and three teams from Scotland. The event is being played on the Torrance Course, a par 72, 7,037-yard layout designed by Gene Sarazen and Sam Torrance. The teams will play 36 holes Saturday and conclude with 18 holes on Sunday.
The tournament, which Wake Forest won in 2002 in the inaugural event, is played every four years.
Joining Wake Forest in Scotland will be North Carolina, NC State, Georgia Southern, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Wofford. Teams representing Scotland include R&A Bursars, St. Andrews University and Stirling University.
Wake Forest, which finished third in the 2006 NCAA Championship, will send six golfers to Scotland: seniors Sean Moore and Matt McLean, juniors Chris McCartin and Chad Wilcox, and sophomores Marc Gladson and Dustin Groves.
The Demon Deacons will be without 2006 honorable mention All-American Webb Simpson, who recently advanced to the semifinals of the United States Amateur and will play in the World Amateur in October in South Africa.
