Deacons Bring Individual Titles Home From UVa Invite

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Wake Forest men's tennis team began its 2006-07 campaign with two singles flight championships at the UVa Fall Invitational, courtesy of senior All-American Todd Paul and sophomore Cory Parr. They won four matches each to capture the Green and Orange flight titles, respectively.
In Sunday's final, Paul, the 14th-ranked singles player nationally, handily defeated 18th-ranked Harel Srugo of Old Dominion, 6-2, 6-1. Paul defeated three nationally-ranked opponents en route to the title, including 64th-ranked Roy Sichel of Charlotte and 94th-ranked Brady Crosby of Western Michigan. Paul did not drop a set in any of his four matches. Parr defeated VCU's Damien Lacombe in a three-set final, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Junior Mariusz Adamski reached the semifinals of the Red Flight before falling to third-seeded Petr Olsak of VCU, 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-1.
Sophomore Charles Sartor and freshman Andrew Brasseaux both went 1-1 in singles. Freshman Jason Morgenstern went 0-2.
In doubles, Adamski and Sartor teamed up to reached the semifinals of the Orange Flight. The rookie duo of Brasseaux and Morgenstern went 1-2. Parr and Paul split their two doubles matches.
As a whole, Wake Forest went 12-5 in singles and 4-4 in doubles.
The Deacons return to action next weekend at the Cincinnati Collegiate Invitational. Wake Forest will be joined by Brown, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan State, Wisconsin and Xavier.
