Men Finish Third, Women Eighth at Clemson Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. -
The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams were in Clemson, S.C., on Saturday for day two of the Clemson Invitational. The men's team finished third overall behind victories from Michael Bingham, Brad Wharton, Robert Gielow and the 4x400m relay team. The women's team finished eighth.
Bingham claimed the 400m title with an NCAA provisionally-qualifying time of 47.54. It was the fastest time in the ACC this season.
Wharton won the mile run with a time of 4:06.98, a new facility record. Also scoring for the Deacs was Mark Russell, who finished sixth in a time of 4:17.44.
Competing in the 800m, sophomore Robert Gielow ran a time of 1:56.32 for the win. Also scoring were freshmen Lee Bailey (1:56.97) and Nicholas Lepley (1:57.86) who finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Four Deacs scored for the team in the 3000m led by freshman Marcus Dillon. He finished second in a time of 8:26.35 while teammate Patrick Russell came in fifth in a time of 8:36.38. Joel Conn and John Compton finished seventh and eighth, respectively.
Additionally, the men's 4x400m relay team consisting of Michael Bingham, Brent LaRue, Jonathan Reid and Tyler Dodds won its race in a time 3:17.06.
On the women's side, junior Melissa Council came in third in the 400m in a time of 56.90.
Competing in the mile, junior Caitlin Chrisman ran a time of 5:01.04 to come in third.
The women's 4x400m relay team had a strong showing as well. Consisting of Melissa Council, Michelle Duffey, Alexandra Gove and Caroline Vaughn, it finished sixth overall in a time of 3:53.13.
In the shot put, senior Lindsay Neuberger had a toss of 47-9 3/4 (14.57m) to finish third and fellow senior Catherine Muehleib came in eighth with a heave of 45-9 1/4 (13.95m).
The Deacons return to action next weekend when they will send members of the team to both the Tiger Combined Events as well as the Liberty Fast Times meet.
