Winston-Salem, NC - The Wake Forest men's tennis team continued their spring success with a convincing 7-0 victory Saturday against 52nd-ranked Louisville.
The Deacons improved their record to 9-1.
Saturday's feature match was between the number one ranked player in college tennis, Wake Forest's Todd Paul, and the 40th-ranked player, Louisville's Slavko Radman. Paul came out victorious, 7-6, 6-4, despite a well-played match by Radman.
Paul, who remains undefeated on the spring (9-0), was satisfied with his performance.
"I played well today even though I had a hard time getting going," Paul commented. "Radman had a good serve today, which made it hard to gain momentum, but overall I thought I played well."
After capturing the doubles point, Wake Forest's Cory Parr and Andrew Hamar won their respective matches before Deacon freshman Steven Forman clinched the victory for the team with a win over Louisville's Kenneth Nordheim, 6-4, 6-2. Mariusz Adamski's win over David Simon, 3-6, 6-4, 2-1 and Jason Morgenstern's win over Horatiu Oltean, 7-5, 6-4, completed the sweep for the Demon Deacons.
Wake Forest head coach Jeff Zinn felt the Deacons' doubles play helped the team to victory.
"I thought we played our best doubles we have played so far this year. We lost number one doubles, but the other team played an outstanding match," Zinn said. "We used the momentum from the doubles matches to get up in a few of the singles matches."
The men's tennis team will face off against 8th-ranked Pepperdine tomorrow at 12:00 noon. The Waves are the defending national champions.
