Winston-Salem, N.C. - The 26th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team stayed undefeated with a pair of victories on Saturday defeating William & Mary, 6-1, and Elon, 5-2. The Deacons improved their season mark to 4-0.
In the morning matchup, the Deacons prevailed in its home opener against William & Mary, 6-1.
"I thought William and Mary played better than the two opponents we had last week," said head coach Jeff Zinn. "We played better than we did last week. William and Mary fought hard."
After sweeping the doubles matches, Jason Morgenstern and Cory Parr cruised to easy victories before 4th-ranked Todd Paul sealed the team victory with a win over William & Mary's Colin O'Brien.
Mariusz Adamski defeated his opponent in a close 7-6, 6-4 match before Steven Forman won Wake Forest's sixth match in a third set super tiebreaker.
Drawing a nationally-ranked opponent at the number two position, Andrew Hamar suffered Wake Forest's first singles loss of the year against 49th-ranked Alex Cojanu in a tightly-contested match, 6-7, 7-6, 1-0 (10-7).
In the nightcap, the Deacons shuffled their doubles lineup and Elon surprised Wake Forest by capturing the doubles point. But the Deacons then refocused and won five of the six singles matches.
Paul sat out the Elon match, allowing Parr to move to play number one. Hamar stayed at the number two position, but everyone else from the morning lineup slid up one position. Freshman Andrew Brasseaux made his debut at No. 6 and notched a 7-5, 6-1 win against Austin Fenn.
Through four matches this spring, Wake Forest men's tennis team is 22-2 in singles matches.
The home stand continues Sunday against 55th-ranked Old Dominion at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center at 12:00 p.m. There will be free pizza for spectators.
