LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Seven student-athletes on the Wake Forest field hockey team earned All-Region honors, as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. Aileen Davis, Minou Gimbrere, Michelle Kasold and Raisa Schiller earned first team spots; Melissa Martin, Hilary Moore and Kim Romansky were named to the South Region's second team.
The All-American squad will be announced after the NCAA finals on Sunday.
Aileen Davis picks up her second consecutive First Team All-Region honor. The junior back from Edinburg, Scotland has started every Wake Forest match since her freshman season and has 11 goals and two assists in 2008. Davis was named All-ACC and earned a spot on the conference All-Tournament team earlier this season, as voted by league coaches.
Minou Gimbrere also earns her second Regional All-America honor. Gimbrere, a midfielder/back from Zwolle, Netherlands, is a team leader in assists with 22 in addition to her nine goals for 2008. Gimbrere was named All-ACC and earned a spot on the NFHCA's Senior All-Star Team.
Michelle Kasold was named All-Region for the third consecutive season. In addition to earning All-ACC and All-Tournament honors by the Atlantic Coast Conference, Kasold has set new records in the Wake Forest single-season and career assists categories. The forward/midfielder from Chapel Hill, N.C. has amassed 60 assists since her freshman season, including 30 for 2008. Kasold also leads the squad in game-winning goals with six. Kasold earned a spot with Gimbrere on the NFHCA Senior All-Star Team.
Raisa Schiller earns her first All-Region honor this season. Helping lead the team in the midfield, the midfielder from Utrecht, Netherlands has ten goals and five assists for 2008 and has started all 24 matches. After the regular season Schiller was named All-ACC for the first time in her career.
Melissa Martin picks up her first All-Region honor. The midfielder from Lancaster, Pa. has started all 24 matches for the Demon Deacons this season and has tallied 15 assists and nine goals, including two game-winners.
Hilary Moore is also a first time All-Region honoree. The junior from Martinsville, Va. has had a breakthrough season in 2008. After starting only ten contests in 2007 and collecting five goals, Moore has started 23 matches this season and leads the squad in scoring with 19 goals. The only contest Moore missed a start for was the Oct. 13 match vs. Northwestern, where she was sidelined after receiving nine stitches to the chin the day before playing Michigan State.
Kim Romansky earns her first All-Region honor. In her first season as a consistent starter, Romansky has netted ten goals and added seven assists. The forward from Malvern, Pa. has two game-winning goals for 2008, including the winning strike against Virginia in the NCAA quarterfinals.
Wake Forest will begin play at the NCAA Final Four tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Demon Deacons (21-3) face Syracuse (22-1) in the semifinals. The contest will be cybercast on NCAA.com.
