WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Coppin State held an edge over Wake Forest in the paint and in points off the bench but the Wake Forest women's basketball team added 20 points off the Eagles' 27 turnovers to post a 74-53 victory and improve to 7-0 for the season.

Wake Forest seniors Alex Tchangoue and Corinne Groves each netted their 900th career points during the Demon Deacon victory. Tchangoue was the game's high scorer with 19 points and Groves followed with 18. Danielle Anders had Coppin State's (0-6) high score with 14 points.

Demon Deacon Brittany Waters was the game's leading rebounder, pulling down eight boards, followed by Coppin State's Whitney Cunningham who recorded seven.

The Demon Deacons hit 15-of-17 from the charity stripe for a season-high 88.2 percent. Tchangoue was a perfect 4-for-4, bringing her season total to team-high 23-for-26.

The game stayed close in the opening minutes. Camille Collier nailed a basket beyond the arc to give Wake Forest a 4-2 advantage following a free throw by Brittany Waters with 17:31 in the half.

At the 12:43 mark CSU's Danielle Anders knotted the score at 10-all with a layup but Alex Tchangoue answered with her first of three 3-point baskets to give the Deacons an advantage that they held for the remainder of the game.

With 2:37 remaining in the first half Corinne Groves netted a jumper to give Wake Forest a 14 point advantage. The basket marked Grove's 900th career point.

A pair of free throws from CSU's Whitney Cunningham with 21 seconds in the half cut the Wake Forest lead to 11 (37-26) heading into intermission.

Coppin State cut the Wake Forest advantage to seven with a jumper from Anders in the opening seconds and a layup from Cunningham one possession later.

Wake Forest then generated a 17-4 scoring run that ended at 13:01 when Tiffany Roulhac sent the ball to an open Tchangoue who netted a 3-pointer to put Wake Forest up 54-34.

The Deacons led by as many as 25 points but Coppin State free throws in the final minutes set the score at 74-53.

Coppin State topped the Deacons in the paint 28-24, as well as off the bench, 13-7. Wake Forest had a 20-11 edge in points off turnovers as well as an 8-0 advantage in fast break points.

Wake Forest now has a week off competition to wrap up final exams. The team will continue its non-conference schedule on Monday, December 15, when it hosts Presbyterian College at 11 a.m.
