Men's Tennis finishes 3-0 in Marathon Weekend

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Forget the pink bunny, the Wake Forest men's tennis team should be the new stars of the Energizer battery ad campaign. The Demon Deacons outlasted East Tennessee and Brown in back-to-back matches on Saturday and then wrapped up play with a win over Southeastern Conference foe South Carolina at the Indoor Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
Wake Forest (6-2) had a rocky start against the East Tennessee Bucs (1-3) on Saturday morning, dropping the doubles point and falling behind early in three singles matches. At the top of the lineup, Wake's Cory Parr and Steve Forman were slow to start, allowing ETSU competitors to gain 4-1 leads in the first set.
Parr then broke serve twice against Enrique Olivares to take a 5-4 advantage. One court over at No. 2 singles, Forman found his fight and inched ahead of Sebastian Serrano 5-4. Both Demon Deacons netters earned tie-breaker wins and added two points in the 4-2 Wake Forest match victory.
At No. 5, sophomore Jason Morganstern had a frustrating finish, fighting through a first set tie-breaker loss to knot the match score against Serbia native Predrag Burmazovic with a 6-4 second set win. When Morganstern had a 4-0 game lead in the final set with a 40-0 point advantage, the match was called when WFU clinched the overall win at No. 2.
Morganstern was able to officially earn a singles win against Brown's Basu Ratnam at No. 4 just two hours later in the Demon Deacon's 6-1 victory over the Bears (3-3). Morganstern finished 6-4, 6-2, while Cory Parr, Carlos Salmon, Mariusz Adamski and Iain Atkinson also earned straight set wins. At No. 1, Forman finished 7-6, 3-6, 6-0 against Brown's Chris Lee.
On Sunday, freshman Jonathon Wolff had his first weekend singles win, de-feathering Gamecock Jaime Cuellar 6-1, 6-1 to tie the overall score at 1-1. Cory Parr and Mariusz Adamski completed their spotless singles weekend with straight set wins at Nos. 1 and 3, respectively, while Forman pulled a three-set upset over No. 74 Pedro Campos. Wake's 4-2 victory marked the first South Carolina loss of the season (6-1).
