Virginia Defeats Wake 4-1 in ACC Tourney Semifinals

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - After topping Virginia Tech 4-2 in the second round of the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships, the fourth-seeded Wake Forest men's tennis team fell 4-1 to No. 1 seed Virginia on Saturday, ending the Demon Deacons' tourney run in Florida.
Wake Forest will now await the NCAA Tournament draws with a 17-10 overall record, while the still unbeaten Cavaliers improved to 27-0 for 2008.
The Demon Deacons were the first to strike, taking the doubles point with a 2-1 decision. Ninth-ranked WFU duo of Cory Parr and Steve Forman defeated Somdev Devarrman/Treat Huey at No. 1 with an 8-5 win, but at loss at Wake's No. 2 slot evened the score. Freshman Jonathan Wolff and Jason Morgenstern then clinched the point at No. 3 with a 9-8 (5) victory over Ted Angelinos and Lee Singer.
Huey tied the match with a straight set win over Cory Parr at No. 2 and Houston Barrick edged the Cavaliers ahead with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Andrew Brasseaux at No. 6. Mariusz Adamski fell to Sanam Singh at No. 3 to put UVA within one point of the win.
After tying Michael Shabaz in the first set, Morgenstren dropped a 7-2 tiebreaker and fell 6-4 in the final set to clinch the Virginia victory.
The Cavaliers will advance to the title match, set for 11 a.m. at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs.
