WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest men's golfer Webb Simpson is the No. 1-ranked amateur golfer in the world, according to Golfweek's amateur top 200.

The senior is coming off a win at the ACC Championship in which Simpson set a new championship record with a 14-under 202. The previous record was a 203 by Clemson's John Engler in 2001.

Simpson qualified for the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Bay Hill after winning last summer's 101st Southern Amateur in Southern Pines, N.C. At Bay Hill, Simpson made the cut and fired a two-under 68 in the final round to finish tied for 31st place in the PGA event.

Simpson won the Azalea Amateur in South Carolina and the Dogwood Invitational in Georgia in 2007 to go along with his win at the Southern Amatuer.

A win at the Western Refining All-America Classic with his most recent victory at the ACC Championship gives the Raleigh-native five tournament victories since the summer of 2007.

Simpson, a second team All-America selection and four-time All-America honorable mention, shot a 62-72-64 to finish 15 under par at the Western Refining All-America Classic in El Paso, Tex.

Simpson currently holds 23 wins over the top 25 collegiate golfers in the United States and has been named a semifinalist for the Ben Hogan Award and a watch list member of the Jack Nicklaus Award.
