WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - After giving up two goals to fifth-ranked Iowa, Wake Forest fired back with three consecutive goals in the second half to take a 3-2 victory over the Hawkeyes to kickoff the 2008 season.

On Sunday the Demon Deacons (1-0) will host the Michigan Wolverines (0-1), who dropped a 6-0 decision to North Carolina in the second match of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Saturday.

After 20 minutes of scoreless play, Iowa's Caitlin McCurdy fired two shots in a row in the center of the circle and converted on the second shot to put Iowa up 1-0. Ten minutes later, Iowa would score for the final time when Caroline Blaum grabbed a ricocheted shot from Lauren Pfieffer and fired it back into the WF goal.

The Demon Deacons turned up the heat during the second half, becoming much more dominant in possession and aggressive with shooting. Senior Minou Gimbrere added the first goal of the day for the Deacons five minutes into the second half, capitalizing on a penalty corner from Melissa Martin. Less than three minutes later, Raisa Schiller found the ball near the right corner of the goal and flicked it to a waiting Martin on the left side who knotted the score with a solid shot.

Hilary Moore posted the game-winning goal when she found a cross from Minou Gimbrere in a chaotic rush at the net and tapped the ball passed Iowa keeper Lissa Munley.

WF goalkeeper Crystal Duffield put up eight saves during the contest, six of the coming during the opening half.
