Binder Wins 800-Meter On Opening Day of Niswonger Invite

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Freshman Molly Binder turned in a personal-best to win the 800-meter dash and lead the Wake Forest track & field team on the opening day of the Niswonger Invite on the campus of East Tennessee State University.
Binder crossed the line in a time of 2:16.80, eclipsing her previous personal-best of 2:17.06, which she ran at the Hokie Invitational two weeks ago.
Nicole Castronuova ran a 57.01 in the prelims of the 400-meter dash to qualify fourth.
Junior Alex Gove also advanced to the finals of the 60-meter hurdles after running a time of 9.09 to win her heat.
In the pole vault, freshman Michelle Lange turned in a season-best mark of 10-11.75 to finish ninth in the event while fellow freshman Sarah Brobeck also posted a season-best in the weight throw with a toss of 41-04.50.
On the men's side, junior Jon Reid ran a solid 200-meter race, advancing to the finals with the second-best time after posting a time 48.32.
In the 800-meter run, freshman Thomas Morrison finished fifth with a time of 1:53.81.
Senior Brent LaRue competed on the first day of the heptathlon at the Kansas State meet Friday night and performed quite well. LaRue ran a personal-best 7.10 in the 60-meter hurdles to win the event. He also finished third in both long jump and shot put with marks of 22-01.00 and 39-03.00, respectively.
The rest of the heptathlon will be completed on Saturday as will the majority of the action from the Niswonger Invite.
