Deacons Sweep Season Opening Doubleheader

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team opened the 2010 season with 7-0 wins over Elon and Wofford at the Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday.
Senior Sasha Kulikova led the Demon Deacons in both matches at No. 1 singles, taking down Elon's Anna Milian 6-1, 6-0 and Wofford's 6-0, 6-0.
Freshman Kathryn Talbert, out of Moorseville, N.C., played Elon's Elisa Simonetti at No. 3 singles and took a 6-2, 6-2 win. Talbert followed with a win at No. 2 over Wofford's Bethany Dyar (6-1, 6-0).
The Demon Deacons won all six double matches. Kulikova and junior Emilee Malvehy topped Elon's Milian and Simonetti 8-6 and Kulikova teamed up with Talbert at No. 1 in the second match, downing Guinn Garcia and Lindsay Larkin 8-2.
Wake Forest will return to the Indoor Tennis Center next weekend to host Charlotte at Sunday, January 23 at 12 p.m.
