WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team held Clemson to just nine points in the first half, tying the school's record for fewest points in a half, en route to a 63-43 win in Winston-Salem on Sunday afternoon.

Wake Forest improves to 12-8 and 3-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference with the win. Clemson stalls at 9-11 and 0-5.

Sophomore Secily Ray led the Demon Deacons with 17 points and 10 rebounds, marking her fourth double-double of the season. Sophomore center Lindsey Mason had a team-best 14 points for Clemson and Lele Hardy and Keyrra Gillespie both had nine rebounds.

Hardy, Clemson's leading scorer (14 ppg), was held to just three points, going 1-for-11 from the field.

"We had a great defensive effort today," Wake Forest head coach Mike Petersen said. "When you hold Lele Hardy to 1-for-11, you know your defense is working hard."

Wake Forest point guard Brooke Thomas had her best scoring performance of the season, putting up 13 points, in addition to seven assists.

The Demon Deacons put up a season-best 87 percent performance from the free throw line (14-for-16). The last time Wake Forest shot 80 percent or more was against Georgia Tech on February 3, 2009, when the squad hit 31-of-38.

Secily Ray netted nine of the Deacs' first 11 points. The defensive pressure from the Demon Deacons forced 14 Clemson turnovers to zero Clemson assists in the opening half. Wake Forest out-scored Clemson 34-9 by the halftime break, tying Clemson's school record for fewest points scored in a half.

With 12:42 left to play Wake Forest's Lakevia Boykin netted a jumper to give Wake Forest its largest lead of the game, 28 points (46-18).

The Deacons recorded six of their 15 turnovers between the 8:45 mark and the 3:40 mark, allowing Clemson to chip away at the Wake Forest advantage. By 3:40 Clemson trailed by 18 (58-40), marking the closest the Tigers came to catching the Deacs.

Next Sunday Wake Forest will host Virginia at 1 p.m. The game will be featured on Fox Sports South and is recognized as this season's Pack the House Night.
