
Deacons Wrap-Up Successful Weekend in Virginia

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Wake Forest track & field teams wrapped-up a successful winter weekend at the snowy Virginia Tech Elite Meet. The Deacons broke a couple of school records and junior Anna Nosenko provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 3,000m run.
On Friday, freshman Myesha Barr turned in an impressive performance in the prelims of the 60m dash as she broke the school-record with a time of 7.78. She bettered Diane Anderson and Caroline Vaughn's record of 7.81. This was Barr's first collegiate 60m dash competition. She then ran a solid 58.51 in the open 400m dash on Saturday which was her best time of the season.
Also on Friday night, sophomore Michelle Lange set the school-record in the pole vault when she cleared 12-2.50 on her first attempt. She broke Jill Ahrens' mark of 12-1.50 which she set at the 2008 ACC Championship.
In the women's 3,000m run Friday night, junior Anna Nosenko ran away from the pack and won the event with an NCAA Provisional time of 9:28.04. She eclipsed the provisional mark of 9:32.00 and also bested her previous indoor best of 9:32.53.
In the men's shot put on Saturday, senior Thomas Sensing had an indoor-best toss of 53-9.25 (16.39m) to finish tenth overall. This was Sensing's fourth competition of the year and he has improved with each performance. Fellow senior Brent LaRue and sophomore Alex Hill also had season-best tosses in the shot put with LaRue registering a mark of 43-3.25 (13.19m) and Hill notching 38-2.00 (11.63m).
LaRue and Hill then joined junior Tyler Dodds and freshman Nate Guthals to finish eighth in the 4x400m relay with a season-best time of 3:18.29. The women's 4x400m relay team of Nicole Castronuova, Maddy Ricco, Caroline Vaughn and Alex Gove also turned in a season-best time of 3:50.00 and finished seventh overall.
The women's distance medley relay team of Dina and Anna Nosenko, Gwen Ricco and Molly Binder got the day started right with a solid run of 11:33.95 to win the event. Then off the track in the women's shot put, sophomore Sarah Brobeck had a season-best toss of 37-10.00 (11.53m).
The Demon Deacons will now head to New York next weekend to compete in the NY Armory Duals. Action is set to begin on Saturday evening Feb. 13.
