FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - In her first NCAA Championship appearance, Wake Forest sophomore Dina Nosenko turned in an impressive performance, finishing ninth in the women's mile run Saturday night at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
Nosenko clocked a time of 4:43.73 in the finals, which was her third-best time of the year. Charlotte Browning, a senior from Florida, took home the national title as she outlasted Katie Follett, a senior from Washington, with a time of 4:35.66.
"Dina ran another strong race today," said Director of Track & Field Annie Bennett. "The race went pretty much how we expected. She was able to make all the moves and really pushed hard. I think she ran her last 800-meters in 2:19.00, so she stuck her nose in there. I am really proud of her."
Nosenko qualified for the championships last weekend at the Alex Wilson Invitational with a school-record 4:41.10 and then moved into the finals with a 4:43.61 Friday night.
The outdoor season will begin next weekend as the Demon Deacons will host the Wake Forest Open at Kentner Stadium. Friday's action will get underway at 9:30 am.
