ATHENS, Ga. - Sophomore Dina Nosenko won the women's 1,500m invitational on Saturday to lead the Wake Forest track & field team at the Spec Towns Open in Athens, Ga.
Nosenko crossed the line nearly eight seconds ahead of the second place competitor as she ran a personal-best 4:22.49. That time will likely rank her in the top-10 in the East Region this season. Graduate student Erin Redden turned in a time of 4:35.92 to finish fifth overall and sophomore Caitlin Crawford finished sixth with an outdoor best 4:39.87.
In the open 1,500m race, Whitney Curry, Kelly Laffey, and Katy Swain all turned in season-best times. Curry finished seventh at 4:54.72 while Swain took ninth at 5:04.21 and Laffey was 10th at 5:04.70.
Senior Alex Gove finished second in the open 200m race with a time of 26.05 and junior Katelyn Wohlford won the open 400m event in a season-best time of 59.49.
On Friday night, sophomores Sarah Brobeck and Carmen Green each recorded personal-bests in their respective events. Brobeck tossed the shot put 40-02.00 to finish 11th overall and Green took ninth in the hammer throw with a mark of 141-01. The duo then took seventh and eighth respectively, in the discus on Saturday as Brobeck marked 129-07 and Green 125-05.
On the men's side, junior Tyler Dodds finished fourth in the 400m invitational with a personal-best time of 48.40. Senior Jon Reid then knocked over a half second off his personal-best in the 100m dash as he too finished fourth with a time of 10.73.
Thomas Morrison ran a season-best 3:58.76 to finish 10th in the 1,500m invitational while six Demon Deacons competed in the open 1,500m led by Paul Loeser. Loeser finished third at 4:01.39 while Tom Finneran turned in a season-best time of 4:01.52 to finish fourth.
In the javelin, freshman Ben Lincoln finished fifth with a solid mark of 206-05 as classmate Luke Hadden took seventh with a toss of 197-08. Senior Thomas Sensing had a season-best toss of 180-01 to finish 13th and Stephan Castellejo finished 16th at 173-09.
The Demon Deacons are now set for next weekend's ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the University of Clemson. The multi-event athletes will get the meet started on Thursday, April 15.
