WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest will look to add to its winning streak as it hosts Davidson for a 7:00 p.m. field hockey matchup on Tuesday at Kentner Stadium.
The Deacons hold a 4-8 record in 2011 and are 0-3 in ACC play, while the Wildcats are 7-4 with a perfect 2-0 mark in NorPac conference play this season. Wake will enter the contest after winning back-to-back games for the first time this year with victories at Temple and Princeton last weekend.
Despite playing in separate conferences, the in-state rivals have an extensive history with one another. The Deacs lead the all-time series 28-17-2 and have had an amazing run over the last two decades, winning 17 straight against Davidson dating back to Sep. 19, 1993. In the last meeting between the two sides, Wake came away with a 5-3 victory on Sep. 17, 2010, with goals from then-juniors Lauren Greenwald and Kaitlin Piosa and then-freshmen Jess McFadyen and Kari Walkley.
Walkley leads the Demon Deacons in goals (six) and total points (12) thus far on the season. She scored twice against both Ohio State and Temple and has the second-highest shots on goal percentage on the team at 80 percent, which trails only senior Emily Cummings at 83.3 percent.
Sophomore Taylor Rhea has had a big impact as of late for Wake. In last weekend's doubleheader, she tallied her second goal of the season and peppered opposing goaltenders with four shots on goal, doubling her total from the first 10 games of the year.
Since making a fantastic defensive save in a 1-0 loss to North Carolina on Sep. 30, Jess McFadyen has netted goals in each of the past two games and will look to continue that streak on Tuesday. As mentioned above, she scored against the Wildcats in last year's meeting.
Finally, freshman Anna Kozniuk played the role of hero for the Deacs once again with her second game-winning goal of the season against Princeton on Sunday. She also notched the winning goal in overtime against Louisville on Sep. 4. Her 11 points (four goals, three assists) are the second-most on the team behind Walkley's 12.
The Wildcats are led by junior Finley Amato, who has eight goals in 2011. The starting lineup for Davidson is also laden with seniors: six of the nine players who have started all 11 games are tested veterans.
