Wake Forest and Appalachian State will meet at a neutral site for the only matchup between the two teams this season. The Demon Deacons and the Mountaineers will face off at L.P. Frans Stadium, home of the Hickory Crawdads, in Hickory, N.C. at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Deacs were able to take one game from host Florida State over the weekend, an 8-0 victory on Saturday. Tim Cooney and Michael Dimock combined for the shutout. The last time that Wake Forest had shut out Florida State was on May 21, 1999, while the last time the Deacs shut out the `Noles in Tallahassee was on April 1, 1967.
Cooney was spectacular in his start, going 7.2 innings and striking out 11. He scattered just five hits and walked only one batter, the second-to-last batter he faced in the eighth inning.
For his efforts, Cooney shared ACC Pitcher of the Week honors with NC State's Cory Mazzoni, who pitched a complete-game shutout in the Wolfpack's win over Clemson on Friday.
Pat Blair led Wake Forest on offense against the Seminoles, going 4-for-11 with two doubles, four walks and six runs scored. Steven Brooks also found himself on base several times over the weekend and scored five runs for the Demon Deacons.
Blair is also leading the team in batting average through the first nine ACC games of the season, hitting .344 with five doubles and nine walks.
On the season, Mac Williamson owns a team-best .287 batting average and is second on the team with 19 RBIs. Williamson helped start the Deacon scoring on Saturday against FSU with a three-run homer in the top of the first inning, his third home run of the season.
Matt Conway has been the biggest power producer for Wake Forest this season. His four home runs and 24 RBIs are both tops on the team, while he is second on the team with 23 hits.
Brooks has been Wake's biggest threat on the basepaths and reaches base more than any other Demon Deacon. Brooks leads the team with 21 runs scored, eight stolen bases, 20 walks and a .408 on-base percentage.
Brian Holmes is slated to get the start against Appalachian State. The sophomore lefty has made two starts on the year and has appeared in six games. He has a 7.30 ERA and an 0-1 record.
