WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest's Anna Nosenko and Erika Martin were named to the 2011 All-ACC Academic Women's Indoor Track and Field Team, while juniors Alex Hill and Scott McCullough were named to the men's squad, as announced Friday by the conference.
Along with athletic achievements on the track, a student athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his or her academic career in order to be eligible for All-ACC Academic Team consideration.
Nosenko and Hill are both three-time honorees of the award, while Martin and McCullough are receiving the honor for the first time of their careers.
A senior from Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine, Nosenko was named the ACC Indoor Track Performer of the Year, marking the first time in program history that a Wake Forest runner received the award.
Nosenko claimed individual titles in both the 3,000 and 5,000-meter runs at the ACC Indoor Championships, and her time of 9:12.02 in the 3,000 set a new school record, surpassing Michelle Sikes' mark of 9:13.33 set in 2007.
Additionally, her 3,000-meter time marked a new league championship record, as she bettered the previous mark of 9:16.37 also set in 2007 by Duke's Shannon Rowbury.
Nosenko carried over her success from the ACC Championships to the national stage, where she claimed All-America honors in both events at the NCAA Championships. The senior placed fourth in the 5,000-meters with a time of 16:10.56 and sixth in the 3,000-meters with a time of 9:19.84.
Martin enjoyed a successful freshman campaign for the Deacons, as she competed primarily in the hurdles and multi events. The Pacific Palisades, Calif. native placed tenth in the pentathlon at the ACC Indoor Championships, where she recorded season-best marks in both the 800-meters (2:29.98) and the long jump (5.07 meters).
When not competing in the multi events, Martin specialized in the 60-meter hurdles. Her team-leading time of 9.02 seconds came at the Liberty Quad Meet en route to a second-place overall finish. She recorded a time of 9.23 in the event during the pentathlon at the ACC Indoor Championships.
Although Nosenko is of senior status in indoor track, she has one year of eligibility remaining in both cross country and outdoor track, as she works toward a degree in political science. Martin is currently undecided on a major.
One of the most versatile athletes on the men's squad, Hill competed primarily in the heptathlon during the indoor season. The North Wales, Pa. native finished fifth in the event at the ACC Indoor Championships with 5,009 total points.
Hill recorded season-best marks in six of the seven heptathlon events at the Championship, including the 60-meters (7.16), the 60-meter hurdles (8.56), the long jump (22-2.5), and the pole vault (11-9.75).
In addition to competition in the heptathlon, Hill was also a member of the 4x400-meter relay squad that placed seventh at the ACC Championships in a time of 3:16.55.
Along with Hill, McCullough competed primarily as a multi-event athlete for the Deacs during the indoor season. He recorded an eighth-place finish in the heptathlon at the ACC Indoor Championships, en route to achieving personal bests in the 60-meters (7.56), the 1,000-meters (2:57.40), the high jump (6-2.25), and the long jump (20-4.5).
Hill is currently pursuing a degree in Accountancy, while McCullough is majoring in biology.
