Most college students look forward to the month of August because it means leaving home once more to head back to a place which has become a second home, a place which is filled with friends and fond memories. However, for me, the past three years August has meant returning to college to do what I love, play field hockey. This year marks my fourth and final season.
We have been back at Wake playing hockey for the past 18 days. They have been filled with running tests, competitions, fun, laughter, rock climbing, and, of course, lots of field hockey. Being together for 18 days, playing hockey and spending lots of quality time together definitely puts everyone on the team in a special mood. When we're not practicing, it's not uncommon to see us in strange outfits going to get frozen yogurt. It's fun outings like these that fill us with laughter and make life time memories.

This past weekend we opened up our season in Ann Arbor, Michigan against the University of Iowa and the University of Michigan.

It was a tough weekend for our team with two losses. However, as always, the team was still able to share laughs throughout the trip. While waiting in the airport, teammates amuse each other with funny activities. Here is Emily Cummings gargoyling, which is the funny cousin of planking.

Perhaps one of the best things about traveling for most of our team is the opportunity to see friends and family. For me, this was one of those opportunities. My oldest sister lives in Wisconsin and was able to see our game against Iowa. Most importantly, her children, my niece and two nephews, were able to see their first field hockey game. Here is a picture of them at the hotel.

The next opportunity for our friends and family to see us play is this Sunday at 4pm at Kenter Stadium. I'm looking forward to our first home game and having the stands filled with our fellow students, as well.
