This weekend we took another bus trip, but this time we headed north to Maryland and Delaware. The bus trip was six hours to Maryland and then another two hours to Delaware, leaving us with an eight-hour trip on the way home. Last week I wrote about the bonding side of the long bus trips, but this week I want to talk about the student side of traveling on long bus trips.
When we are at home, as student-athletes we have multiple responsibilities off the field. We have homework that has to be completed and we have tutoring for our various subjects to ensure we are successful off the field. On the long bus trips, our academic responsibilities do not diminish. Sometimes, we have to make sure we turn in assignments and take exams ahead of time. Also, in between the walk-throughs, meetings and games, we have to complete homework that is due when we get back to campus. Even though we have fun and bond on the bus, we are also diligent and put in the effort for being successful in the classroom.
But after we complete what needs to be done for class, we make sure to enjoy the ride. People find ways to entertain each other on and off the bus. And of course, Emily continues to find new ways to plank. And this trip we picked up a special someone on the front of the bus.
