Field Hockey Gears Up for Weekend Doubleheader

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - No. 22 Wake Forest will compete twice this weekend, opening on Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. in Williamsburg, Va., against No. 21 William and Mary before returning home to Kentner Stadium on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. for a showdown with Louisville.
The Deacs (5-7, 1-2 ACC) enter the weekend with momentum from a 6-1 victory in a mid-week tilt against Davidson on Tuesday night. Louisville (8-6, 1-2 Big East) faces a doubleheader this weekend, squaring off against Rutgers on Friday afternoon before traveling to Winston-Salem on Sunday. William and Mary (10-4, 3-2 CAA) defeated Towson 4-3 in a thrilling overtime win in their last time out last Sunday.

Wake Forest has faced each side 10 times prior to this weekend's matches. The Demon Deacons lead the series with Louisville 9-1, having won the previous eight in a row against the Cardinals. In the last meeting on Sept. 4, 2011, Anna Kozniuk tallied the first game-winning goal of her career as the Deacs triumphed 3-2 in overtime.
The matchup with William and Mary will be the first in the series since Oct. 1, 2000, a game which the Deacs won 2-0 at home. The series is tied 5-5, but Wake has won three consecutive meetings against the Tribe.
Jess McFadyen continues to lead the way for the squad this season. The Wellington, New Zealand, native has tallied a team-high eight goals and 18 points and has scored in four of her last five contests, including a pair against Ohio on Oct. 3. Her eight scores have come on just 15 shots this season, 13 of which have been on goal for an incredible .867 on-goal percentage.
Taylor Rhea has matched McFadyen's on-goal percentage as 26 of her 30 shots have been on target. The junior has scored seven goals, all of which have been scored in the last eight games. She has been shut out just twice during that span, and 22 of her 30 shot attempts have been taken since facing Northwestern on Sept. 11.
With Jillian Anzalone getting on the board following her goal on a penalty stroke against Davidson, 10 of the 16 players on the roster have now scored at least one goal this season. Kali Vicars has not scored, but did record an assist against Maryland on Sept. 22.
Christine Johnson enters the weekend as the leading scorer for William and Mary. She has totaled seven goals and 19 total points in 14 games this season. Emma Clifton sits just behind Johnson with six goals and 16 points. For the Cardinals, Becca Maddock enters their matchup on Friday as the team's leading scorer with eight goals and 19 points.
Following this weekend's doubleheader, Wake Forest will return to the field on Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. to face the Radford Highlanders (1-11, 1-2 NorPac) at Kentner Stadium.
