Field Hockey Deacs Earn All-Region, All-American Accolades

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Four members of the Wake Forest field hockey team have been honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches' Association with All-South Region and All-American accolades following the 2012 season as announced on Tuesday morning.
Sophomore Anna Kozniuk, who finished the year with five goals and nine assists, spearheads the list as a Third Team All-American. The selection marks the second straight year that the Canadian national team member has been named to the prestigious team.
In addition to her All-American status, Kozniuk was also selected as a member of the First Team All-South Region team, again tallying her second consecutive nomination to that squad. She started in all 20 contests for Wake Forest this season and racked up 45 total shots, the second-most on the team.
Kozniuk also scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over then-No. 10 Michigan on Aug. 26 as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
Senior Lizzie Rae was named a Second Team All-South Region player, meaning that she will finish her career as a Demon Deacon with a spot on the All-South team following each of her four seasons.
The Christchurch, New Zealand, native led the squad in total shots with 52 this season and was tied for the team lead in shots on goal with 31. Like Kozniuk, Rae started all 20 games for the Deacs while scoring six goals and assisting on two others to finish with 14 points.
Her best game of the season came on Sept. 14 against Appalachian State when she scored the third hat trick of her career, and she tallied a pair of goals on Senior Day to down California on Oct. 21 as well.
Juniors Taylor Rhea and Jess McFadyen also earned the first All-South Regions honors of their careers after each placing onto the Second Team. The duo led the squad in goals with eight apiece, but McFadyen led the team in points with 22 by recording six assists compared to only two for Rhea.
Rhea started each of the 20 games, while McFadyen missed the contest against Appalachian State due to injury. After each taking a huge step forward during their junior campaigns, both will be looking to carry that momentum forward into their senior season together.
