BLACKSBURG, VA. - Five members of the Wake Forest track & field teams competed in the Virginia Tech Challenge on Friday evening at the Rector Field House. Sprints and hurdles were the only events represented on the evening, as the Deacs did not have participants competing in field events.
Freshman Montasia Golden led the Deacs on the women's side, finishing fourth in the prelims and seventh in the finals of the 60 meter hurdles. Golden's time of 8.86 in the prelims marked a new personal record, as she surpassed her previous top time of 8.92.
Mytoia Gathings also represented the women's squad on Friday evening, finishing 10th in the prelims of the 60 meters with a time of 7.84.
After impressive debut performances at last weekend's Fast Track Invitational, freshmen Sherman Ragland and Orville Reynolds once again shined in their respective events. Ragland finished fourth overall in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.15, narrowly missing his personal-best mark of 8.14 set last weekend.
Reynolds once again showed a tremendous amount of speed over the shorter distances, finishing third in both the preliminaries and the finals of the 60 meters. Reynolds finished in 6.88 seconds in both races.
Also competing on the men's side for Wake Forest was sophomore Brandon Terry in the 200 meters. Terry set a personal-best time in the event, finishing sixth overall in 22.07.
Day Two of the Virginia Tech Challenge will begin tomorrow at 11 a.m. with the women's high jump. Action on the track is set to start at 1 p.m. with the women's 3,000 meters. Live results throughout the entire meet will be available on flashresults.com.
