CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Wake Forest senior Ryann Cutillo picked up her first-ever win at No. 1 singles but the Demon Deacon women's tennis team fell 6-1 on the road at Boston College on Saturday.
Cutillo was moved up to the top singles position after Kayla Duncan had to be pulled from the Wake Forest lineup following doubles and came through with an easy 6-2, 6-2 win over Jessica Wacnik. The Kings Park, N.Y. native leads the Deacons with a 6-3 singles record in conference play this season.
Duncan's absence forced the Demon Deacons (3-15, 0-9 ACC) to forfeit at No. 6 singles and left the rest of the Wake Forest lineup playing out of position. Boston College (9-10, 3-6 ACC) capitalized, winning at the Nos. 2-5 singles spots. The Eagles had taken an early 1-0 lead by sweeping the doubles point.
Wake Forest will close out the regular season next weekend on the road, traveling to face Georgia Tech on April 14 and Clemson on April 15.
