Track & Field to Compete in Three Weekend Meets

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - A select group of members from the Wake Forest track & field teams will compete in three meets this weekend in an attempt to either qualify for or improve upon their current marks for the NCAA First Round East Regional Meet.
The top 48 declared athletes in each region per event qualify for the NCAA First Round Meets, which will take place May 24-26 in Jacksonville, Fla. The top 12 athletes from each region then advance to the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, from June 6-9.
Live results will only be available during Sunday's meet, the Wolfpack Last Chance Invitational, at flashresults.com. Complete recaps of action from all three meets will be posted at the conclusion of each day's events.
Thursday: Roanoke / Virginia Tech Twilight Meet (Roanoke, Va.)
The mid-distance and distance runners will represent the Deacs on Thursday afternoon at the Roanoke - Virginia Tech Twilight Meet. Competition will take place at Roanoke College's C. Homer Bast Track / Alumni Field Complex.
Kyle Eager and Michael McEnany are scheduled to race in the 800 meters, while the trio of Paul Loeser, Anthony Marois, and Alex Rose will compete in the 1500 meters.
Garret Drogosch will compete in the 10,000 meters for the second time this season, as he currently owns a top time of 30:13.47, recorded at the ACC Championship en route to an eighth-place finish overall.
On the women's side, Casey Fowler and Caitlin Crawford will race in the 1500 meters on Thursday afternoon. Both runners advanced to the finals of the event at the ACC Championship, with Crawford placing sixth and Fowler taking 11th place in the finals.
Friday and Saturday: Georgia Tech Invitational (Atlanta)
A number of field athletes will compete for Wake Forest on Friday and Saturday at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
Current school record-holder Ben Lincoln will represent the Deacs in the javelin throw on Friday evening, along with freshman Patrick Donelan. Lincoln's top mark of 240-3 (73.23 meters) came at the ACC Championship, en route to a third-place finish that earned him All-ACC honors for the third consecutive season. Additionally, Lincoln ranks ninth in the javelin in the NCAA East Region and 14th nationally.
Donelan also enjoyed a career-best performance in his ACC Championship debut, throwing for a distance of 201-8 (61.47 meters) to place sixth overall and move into fifth place on the Wake Forest all-time charts.
For the women's squad, senior Sarah Brobeck will compete Friday evening in the javelin, while freshmen Nyki Caldwell (high jump) and Montasia Golden (triple jump) will compete Saturday afternoon.
Brobeck turned in a personal-best throw of 141-4 (43.09 meters) in the javelin earlier this season at the Wake Forest Open to rank second all-time in school history. The Salem, Ohio, native also finished fifth in the javelin at the ACC Championship with a mark of 132-3 (40.30 meters) to score four points for the Demon Deacons.
Freshman Daniel Harrison will race as the lone Demon Deacon in the track events, competing in the 400 meters on Saturday afternoon. Harrison has enjoyed a successful freshman season, finishing fifth overall in the 400 at the ACC Championship in a personal-best time of 47.75 that moved him into 10th place all-time in school history.
Sunday: Wolfpack Last Chance Meet (Raleigh, N.C.)
If the athletes racing in Thursday's competition at Roanoke College do not achieve a regional qualifying standard, they will attempt one last qualifying time on Sunday at the Wolfpack Last Chance Meet, hosted by NC State in Raleigh, NC.
Drogosch will compete in the 5,000 meters at the meet instead of the 10,000 meters. The junior owns a season-best time of 14:37.56 in the event, and he placed 15th at the ACC Championship in the 5k with a time of 14:49.80.
Along with the aforementioned athletes, Paul Loeser will also compete in the 3,000 meter steeplechase on Sunday in an attempt to improve upon a career-best mark of 8:57.21, which came earlier this season at NC State. Loeser currently ranks 42nd nationally in the event.
Loeser finished third overall in the steeplechase at the ACC Championship to earn All-ACC honors for the first time of his career, and the Winston-Salem native currently ranks fifth all-time in school history in the event.
