Wake Forest Opens with ODU in the NCAA Tournament

• No. 13 Wake Forest faces off with No. 6 Old Dominion on Saturday afternoon in Chapel Hill, N.C. in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament. The game will take place at Francis E. Henry Stadium on the campus of the University of North Carolina.
• The Demon Deacons are making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2010.

Last Time Out

• No. 3 North Carolina used an early second half goal to down No. 15 Wake Forest 3-2 last Thursday in the quarterfinals of the ACC Field Hockey Tournament.
Taylor Rhea and Anna Kozniuk both scored for the Demon Deacons in the game. Valerie Dahmen made eight saves for Wake Forest. Each team traded goals in the first half and were tied 2-2 at halftime. North Carolina registered the game-winning goal minutes into the second half and held on to win 3-2.

Wake Forest Storylines

• The Deacs return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010 when Wake Forest played Prinecton. All-time, the Demon Deacons are 28-9 in the NCAA Tournament and won the NCAA National Championship in 2002, 2003 and 2004.
• Wake Forest is ranked No. 13 in the latest NFCHA poll which is the highest mark this season. The Deacs were ranked No. 18 in the preseason poll.
• The Deacs went 9-2 at home in Kentner Stadium this year, outscoring opponents 41-15 during that time.
• Wake Forest is No. 12 in the latest RPI.
Taylor Rhea continues to score as she has tallied 14 goals in the last nine games.

The Opposition & Series History

• Old Dominion leads Wake Forest 3-0 in the all-time series with the Demon Deacons. The two teams last played on Sept. 8, 2001.
• The Monarchs fell to No. 7 Connecticut 1-0 in overtime on Sunday in the Big East Championship. It snapped a 12-game winning streak for the Monarchs who come into Saturday's game with a 13-7 overall record.
• No stranger to the ACC, Old Dominion played five Atlantic Coast Conference opponents in 2013 while Wake Forest and ODU shared seven common opponents this season.

Next Up...

• The winner will advance to the second round of the tournament on Sunday at 2 p.m. North Carolina is the third seed in the tournament and will serve as the host. The Tar Heels will face the winner of the play-in game between Liberty and Delaware on Saturday.
