
Three Demon Deacons Earn NFHCA All-Region Honors

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Three Wake Forest field hockey players were named to the 2013 Longstreth/NFCHA All-Region teams as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association on Tuesday.
Anna Kozniuk earned All-South Region First Team accolades while Christine Conroe and Taylor Rhea each were named to the All-South Region Second Team.
Kozniuk, a junior from North Vancouver, Canada, tallied nine goals and six assists this season for a total of 24 points which is a career high. Kozniuk also had two defensive saves and was two-for-two on penalty stroke opportunities this season. A preseason All-ACC honoree, Kozniuk was named to the All-ACC First Team for the third straight season in 2013. She has been named to the All-South Region First Team every year at Wake Forest as well.
A redshirt junior from Greene, N.Y., Conroe picks up All-South Region Second Team accolades for the first time in her career. Conroe tallied a goal and five assists this season and was also named to the All-ACC Second Team. In the 3-2 win over Old Dominion in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, Conroe tied the game up at 2-2 at the end of the first half and recorded a defensive save.
Rhea caps off a tremendous senior season by earning All-South Region Second Team honors for the first time in her career. The Virginia Beach, Va.-native had 17 goals and four assists for a total of 38 points. After recording a hat trick against Boston College on Nov. 2, she was named the ACC Player of the Week and was also selected as a participant in the NFCHA Division I Senior Game. Rhea had five game winning goals this season. She also ranks in the top-five in the ACC in goals scored, goals per game and points per game.
Wake Forest finished the season 12-9 with a 1-5 record in the ACC and was ranked all season long as high as No. 13 in the NFCHA poll. The Demon Deacons earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the quarterfinal round, falling to North Carolina on Sunday.
