NEW LONDON, N.C. - Wake Forest senior All-American Evan Beck shot a 2-under 70 in the second round of the ACC Championship on Saturday and is in a tie for ninth at 5-under par.

As a team, the Demon Deacons carded their second-straight round of 2-under 286 and are in sixth place at 4-under par. Florida State opened the day with an 11-stroke lead but great rounds by Duke and Georgia Tech on Saturday have trimmed the Seminole cushion to just four shots with a round to play. FSU is 25-under for the tournament while Duke is 21-under and Georgia Tech is 20-under.

For the second-straight day, Beck got off to a great start with three birdies in the first seven holes. A bogey at No. 9 dropped him back to 2-under and he would then play the final nine holes at even-par to post a 2-under 70. He is 5-under par for the tournament and tied for ninth. Beck has finished in the top-10 in seven of his eight tournaments this season.

Freshman Davis Womble opened the championship with a 3-under 69 on Friday and he birdied his final two holes on Saturday to post his second-straight under-par round. Womble carded a 1-under 71 and is alone in 12th place at 4-under par. His highest finish this season is a tie for 15th at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in the fall.

Like Womble, junior Thomas Birdsey birdied two of his final three holes on Saturday to post a round of 1-under 71. That was his first under-par round since a final round 71 at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate in February. Birdsey carded a 73 on Friday and is now even-par for the tournament.

Senior Charlie Harrison made three birdies on his closing nine on Saturday to card a second round 74. Coupled with a 75 in round one, Harrison is in a tie for 41st heading into the final round. Junior John Varol had an up-and-down round on Saturday, making a total of four birdies but finished with a 7-over 79.

Georgia Tech Andres Albertson followed his opening round 66 with a 67 and holds a two shot lead at 11-under par. Florida State's Chase Seiffert is at 9-under par after rounds of 69-66. Former Deacon All-American Webb Simpson holds the tournament scoring record at 18-under par which he set en route to victory in 2008.

The Demon Deacons will be in the second-to-last pairing again on Sunday beginning at 10:10 a.m. Wake is paired with Virginia and Virginia Tech. Golfstat.com will have live scoring of the final round and TheACC.com will have live video coverage starting at 2:30 p.m.
