WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - No. 4 Virginia scored two goals early and added a tally in the second period to down No. 15 Wake Forest 3-0 at Kentner Stadium on Friday night.

Valerie Dahmen made five saves for the Demon Deacons in the game including three in the second half. Holly Brown had a team-high two shots in the loss.

Elly Buckley had two goals for the Cavaliers while Lucy Hyams had one. Jenny Johnstone made five saves for Virginia.

Hyams registered the first goal of the game 2:33 into the first half while Buckley scored in the fifth minute.

Virginia added a third goal by Buckley off a rebound with less than 10 minutes left in the game.

Wake Forest had a flurry of shots in the 54th minute but Virginia had a save and a defensive save to keep the Deacs off the board.

Prior to the game, Wake Forest held a moment of silence for Deacon great Maria Whitehead who passed away from melanoma in 2006.

Wake Forest is back in action again on Sunday when the Demon Deacons host Richmond at 1 p.m. at Kentner Stadium.
