Bojanowski and Riley Lead Deacs at Joe Hilton Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Wake Forest track and field teams competed in the Joe Hilton Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. on Saturday just one week prior to the ACC Outdoor Championships. Senior Thomas Bojanowski led the Deacs capturing a first place finish in the 800m and freshman Tessa Riley secured a second place finish in the women's 800m.
Men
Brady Wilson placed seventh in the 400m dash with a time of 52.30.
In the 800m the Deacs placed in first, second and third with senior Thomas Bojanowski capturing first (1:50.01), Simon Holden placing second (1:50.52) and Kyle Eager placing third (1:51.16).
Tom Finnernan had a strong performance in the one mile run placing 13th (4:10.24). Alex Giacco placed 22nd (4:16.20) and Ryan Horgan placed 23rd (4:16.94).
Alexander Krall placed third in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.78 and Malcolm Nunley placed second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.85.
Jumping for the Deacs in the high jump was Michael Rufrano tying for third with a mark of 1.95m and in the long jump Alexander Krall placed second with a mark of 6.02m.
Sophomore Michael Cyphers took third in the pole vault with a mark of 4.85mm and sophomore Alexander Krall took fifth (4.20m).
Steve Michaelsen had a strong performance in the shot put, finishing in sixth place with a throw of 15.03m.
In the discus throw Steve Michaelsen placed fifth (46.52m) and Alexander Krall placed 10th (30.99m).
Charlie Ionata threw for 57.01m in the javelin throw placing in fourth.
Throwing hammer were freshman Charlie Ionata finishing in first (59.67m), Kyle Johnson placing fifth (53.42m), Nate Wooten placing sixth (52.71m), Teddy Mottola placing seventh (51.86m) and K.C. Barrett placing 11th (46.69m).
Women
In the 800m run freshman Tessa Riley led the Deacs placing second (2:10.53) with Marie Johnston placing fourth (2:13.57) and Natalie Sukramani placing ninth (2:17.41).
Competing in the one mile run were freshman Ellie Abrahamson who placed 12th crossing the line in 4:58.14 and junior Aubrey Waggoner placing 20th (5:10.79).
Freshman Chandler Borton competed in the 3,000m run and placed fifth with a time of 10:13.89.
Hurdling for the Deacs in the 100m hurdles were Hunter Roberts placing second (14.16), Erika Martin placing fourth (14.24)and Alyssa Thompson placing fifth (14.78).
In the high jump junior Nyki Caldwell placed second (1.73m), Amy Collins placed fourth (1.63m) and Alyssa Thompson placed eighth (1.58m).
Sydney White had a strong performance in the pole vault, finishing in third place with a mark of 3.98m.
Alyssa Thompson took second in the high jump (5.83)m, while senior Phoebe Kershaw came in fourth place in the triple jump with a mark of 11.82m.
Freshman Casidy Callahan had a strong performance in three field events on Saturday placing seventh in the shot put with a throw of 12.81m, placing fourth in the discus with a throw of 44.92m and placing second in the hammer throw with a throw of 52.90m.
Erika Martin led the Deacs in the javelin throw placing third with a throw of 37.66m. Freshman Alyssa Thompson secured second place (39.33m) and freshman Amy Collins placed eighth (27.66m)
The Deacs head back to Chapel Hill, N.C. next weekend for the ACC Outdoor Championships April 17-19.
