WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest freshman third baseman Will Craig was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team as announced by Collegiate Baseball on Wednesday.
Craig becomes the first Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American since Matt Conway was awarded the honor in 2010. He is among seven ACC players to earn the honor.
A native of Johnson City, Tenn., Craig led Wake Forest with eight home runs in 2014 and was second on the team with 36 RBIs while maintaining a batting average of .280. He compiled 53 hits, six doubles and 21 runs. He also had an on-base percentage of .357, drew 20 walks and slugged .439 while recording six sacrifice flies.
His eight homers ranked among the leaders in the ACC at the end of the regular season and ranked among the league leaders in several offensive categories throughout the season. Craig finished the season ranked ninth in school history for home runs as a freshman and 10th in games played as a freshman.
He was named the ACC Player of the Week on March 10 after tallying six hits, six runs, three RBIs with two homers and four walks in the series win at Georgia Tech. In 2014 he also had an 11-game hitting streak and a 10-game RBI streak.
Also a pitcher, Craig made seven appearances on the mound with a 4.05 ERA in 13.1 innings pitched.
Wake Forest finished the season with a 30-26 record and a 15-15 mark in the ACC while earning the eighth seed in the ACC Baseball Championship.
