
No. 12 Wake Forest Shuts Out Richmond, 4-0

RICHMOND, Va. - Anna Kozniuk scored twice and the Emily Conroe and Krysta Wangerin added a goal each as the No. 12 Wake Forest shut out the Richmond Spiders 4-0 Sunday afternoon.
The Demon Deacons improve to 5-3 overall with the win and Richmond falls to 4-4 overall with the loss.
Conroe put the Deacs on the board first at the 4:00 mark, finishing off a cross from Madi Julius to put them ahead 1-0. Right before the end of the first half, Wake Forest was awarded a penalty corner and at the 33:10 mark, the team executed it perfectly. Christine Conroe took the penalty corner, and Kali Vicars laid it off for Kozniuk who rifled the ball into the cage.
The Demon Deacons held a 2-0 lead going into halftime. Both teams were dead even in the shots department with a 4-4 tally.
In the second half, Kozniuk score Wake Forest's third goal on another penalty corner at the 42:55 mark. Conroe passed it to Jess Newak, who set up Kozniuk for the finish. The goal was Kozniuk's team-high seventh of the season.
Several minutes later, the Deacs would capitalize again at the 47:26 mark after a timeout by Richmond. Wangerin pounced on a deflected cross, to score her second of the season. The Demon Deacons went on to close out the match with a 4-0 victory.
Valerie Dahmen recorded her third shutout of the season facing eight shots and making two saves.
The team returns to Kentner Stadium for three consecutive home matches, starting on Tuesday against the Appalachian State Mountaineers at 6 p.m. The Deacs will then face ACC newcomer Louisville on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by another non-conference match against California on Sunday, September 28, at noon.
