WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Junior Jessie Merckle earned a No. 16 ranking for the javelin throw on Track and Field News' 68th annual U.S. Rankings. Track and Field News, the premier publication for the sport, includes in its rankings athletes from the high school, college and professional levels.
The junior out of Hickory, Pa., tabbed a spot on the final 2014 Track & Field News rankings and her PR of 53.94m (177-0), which she set at the 2014 ACC Championships, ranked No. 16 in the United States for all javelin throwers. She also competed well at the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships with an 11th place finish.
This is the second year in a row that a Wake Forest thrower ends the year ranked in the top-20 in the United States. In 2013, Ben Lincoln finished the year ranked No. 11 while Jessie had the 26th best mark.
