
No. 17 Miami Takes Series-Opener over Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - No. 17-ranked Miami hit four home runs and took advantage of 11 walks to defeat Wake Forest 15-2 at Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball Park on Friday night.
The Hurricanes (17-6, 5-2 ACC) plated 10 runs over the first two innings to take a commanding 10-1 lead and never looked back.
Miami's David Thompson, the reigning ACC Player of the Week, went 3-for-4 with a double, two home runs, including a grand slam, and seven RBIs to lead the Miami offense.
Wake Forest (14-9, 3-4 ACC) starter Matt Pirro (5-1) suffered his first defeat of the season. He surrendered nine runs - six of them unearned - on six hits and five walks.
Paul Kirkpatrick was excellent in relief, striking out six batters and allowing one run in 4.0 innings.
Andrew Loepprich tossed 1.1 more scoreless frames. He is still yet to allow a run this season.
Will Craig finished 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead Wake Forest's offense, while Nate Mondou went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks.
Thomas Woodrey (3-1) earned the win for Miami, allowing two runs over 6.0 innings, scattering six hits. Derik Beauprez, Ryan Otero and Jesse Lepore combined for 3.0 scoreless innings in relief.
Game two of the series is slated for Saturday at 4 p.m., with Sunday's series finale scheduled for 1 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
