Deacons Wrap Up Wake Forest Open

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest track and field teams wrapped up the final day of competition of the Wake Forest Open on Saturday at Kentner Stadium. Five Demon Deacons earned first place finishes of the second day of the meet.
Leading the way for the women, reigning 2014 ACC Javelin Champion Jessie Merckle took first place in the javelin in the first event of day two. She threw a solid distance of 51.46m (168-10 ft) for her first competitive throw since the 2014 outdoor season.
In addition to Merckle, Sydney White took first in the women's pole vault clearing 3.85m (12-7.5) and Katie Adair took third place vaulting 3.70m (12-1.5).
In the women's track events, Kathryn Lazarchick led the way with a first place finish in the 800m run in personal-record time. Laura-Ann Schwede also had a top-three finish taking the third spot and recording a personal record.
For the men in the field events, Max Adams had a strong result in his first collegiate discus competition. He tossed a distance of 52.29m (171-6 ft) for a second place finish.
Leading the way in the men's track events, Kyle Graves took first place in the 800m with a time of 1:52.30. Sebastian Fischbach also earned a first place finish with a time of 8:24.60 in the 3000m run.
In addition to Graves and Fischbach, Connor Crowley finished third and Alexander Giacco finished fourth, earning top-five finishes in the 3000m.
The Demon Deacons continue the outdoor season next weekend as they will split up to compete in the Texas Relays and Raleigh Relays.
