Emrey Leads Deacs In Opening Round At LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. - Wake Forest carded a 317 on the first day of the LSU Tiger Golf Classic at the University Club. Allison Emrey led the Demon Deacons with a 4-over 76 in the opening round.
Emrey is poised to move up the standings on Saturday, just four strokes back of the leaders with 36 holes remaining. She is tied for 18th after an opening round 76.
As a team the Demon Deacons fired a 317 and sit in 13th place. There are just five strokes separating spots five through 13 in the team standings.
"The conditions were challenging and we did not play as well as we wanted," said head coach Dianne Dailey. "However, we learned a lot about the course and the scores will improve tomorrow."
Marissa Dodd is tied for 35th after an opening round 79. Sierra Sims is one stroke behind Dodd at 8-over with an 80. Freshman Vinh-Hop Ngo shot an 82 on Friday and her classmate Erica Herr rounded out the scores with an 88.
The host team, LSU, leads tournament at 9-over 297. They have a three stroke lead over TCU. Three players are tied for the individual lead at even par 72: TCU's Kelly McGovern, Oklahoma's Hannah Wood and North Carolina's Leslie Cloots.
The Demon Deacons tee off beginning at 9:20 a.m. on Saturday. Wake Forest will be paired with Missouri and UTSA.
