Wake Forest Shuts Out High Point, 6-0

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest earned its first shutout in more than two months, taking down High Point by a 6-0 score at Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball Park on Tuesday night.
The Demon Deacons (26-20) walked just two batters, as Will Craig and Connor Johnstone combined for the shutout.
Craig matched his career-high by tossing 6.0 innings, striking out a career-best six batters as he improved to 3-3.
Johnstone picked up his second save of the season, throwing the final 3.0 innings and allowing three hits without a walk.
Justin Yurchak drilled his fifth home run of the season and added an RBI double to lead the Wake Forest offense.
Wake Forest struck for four runs in the third to open the scoring. After a Kevin Jordan double, Kevin Conway (single), Nate Mondou (sac fly), Yurchak (double) and Gavin Sheets (single) chipped in RBIs as the Deacons jumped ahead, 4-0.
Nick Bisplinghoff and Drew Freedman roped back-to-back doubles in the fourth to push the lead to 5-0, before Yurchak homered to lead off the fifth and extend the advantage to 6-0.
After High Point (22-21) left the bases loaded in the fifth, a diving play by Sheets saved at least one run in the sixth as he flipped it to Craig to end another Panther threat. High Point was unable to get more than one runner on base in any of the final three innings.
Sheets finished the day with a pair of hits, while Jordan and Craig also reached twice.
For the Panthers, Jace Hererra (0-2) took the loss after allowing all six runs in 4.1 frames, while Peter Ripke didn't allow a hit the final 3.2 innings.
The teams will meet again tomorrow at 6 p.m., this time at High Point.
