HIGH POINT, N.C. - Wake Forest erased an early deficit, but was unable to execute late in a 4-3 loss to High Point at Williard Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Demon Deacons (26-21) put runners on second and third with nobody out in the ninth, but High Point (23-21) got the first out at home on a fielder's choice, then a strikeout and flyout to end the Wake Forest threat.

Wake Forest stranded 12 runners in the game.

Trailing 3-0 after the fifth, Wake Forest knotted the game at 3-3 in the sixth. Will Craig drilled an RBI double, then Nick Bisplinghoff added an RBI double on which another runner scored on an overthrow.

With two outs in the eighth, the Panthers strung together back-to-back-to-back singles to take the 4-3 advantage.

John McCarren led the Wake Forest pitching staff, allowing one unearned run in 3.0 innings of work on one hit and one walk with three strikeouts.

Craig finished with three hits for the Deacons, while Jonathan Pryor had a pair of bunt singles. Bisplinghoff was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks.

Parker Dunshee (5-2) took the loss, allowing an earned run in an inning of work.

For High Point, Tyler Britton (3-1) earned the victory, while Joe Goodman picked up his fourth save.

The game was the first Wake Forest dropped this season when allowing less than six runs, snapping a streak of 21 straight victories.

Wake Forest now has a week-and-a-half off for finals, before playing host to NC State in an ACC series from May 8-11.
