Deacons Complete Day One of Vertklasse Meeting

HIGH POINT, N.C. - The Wake Forest track and field teams completed day one of competition on Friday at the High Point Vertklasse Meeting.
Leading the way for the Deacons was Sarah Fahmy as she finished third in the women's 3,000m steeplechase. She turned in a stellar time as well of 11:20.57, placing her seventh on the Wake Forest All-Time Performance list for the 3,000m steeplechase.
Two other women's competitors also earned top-10 places on the Wake Forest All-Time Performance list for their respective events. Gabrielle Merritt, who was also competing in the 3,000m steeplechase with Fahmy, finished right behind her teammate in fourth place and also placed herself behind Fahmy in eighth place on the performance list.
In the throwing events, Andrea Vahoua finished with a personal-best toss of 12.71m (41-8.5) in the shot put, placing her ninth on the Wake Forest All-Time list for the event. Megan Reardon's personal-best toss in the javelin moved her to sixth on the Wake Forest All-Time Performance list. She finished with a distance of 38.78m (127-3).
On the men's side, several Deacons finished turned in top-10 performances in their respective events. Aiden McConnell earned the highest finish of the day on the men's side with a fourth place finish in the Javelin.
In addition, Alex Krall had a fourth place finish in the high jump participation and a sixth place finish in the javelin. Rusty Provins finished fifth in the shot put while Steve Michaelsen finished ninth. Connor Crowley lead the way for the runners with a sixth place finish in the men's 3,000m steeplechase.
Wake Forest returns to competition at the High Point Vertklasse Meeting tomorrow for day two to wrap up the meet.
